Alban Lakata (Topeak Ergon) and Rebecca Rusch (Specialized) powered through the thin air to capture the famed Leadville 100 today. The two finished ahead of more than 2000 riders that set out to the conquer the more than 100 miles of challenging terrain and elevations as high as 12,430 feet.
Alban Lakata won the men’s race in 6:32:24. Lakata held off Christoph Sauser (Specialized), who finished second at 6:34:51, and Jeremiah Bishop (Cannondale) at 6:41:58. In the women's race Rebecca Rusch dominated with a time at 7:28:06, shattering her own course record by more than three minutes. Rusch finished ahead of Sally Bigham (Topeak Ergon) at 7:34:35 and Pua Mata (ShoAir Specialized at 7:38:04. With her victory, Rusch becomes the only woman to win Leadville four times.
