No longer the domain of tiny female triathletes, 650 wheels seem to be taking the mountain bike world by storm, at least that’s what the European brands keep telling us. As an OEM powerhouse RockShox has taken notice and will be delivering SID and REBA 650B, or 27.5”, forks for 2013
Rather than simply shortening an existing 29er fork, or elongating a 26” fork, RockShox is all in with dedicated 27.5” forks. The crown has a different offset, the clearance is optimized and the lower legs are dedicated to these forks alone. They all use RockShox's excellent Motion Control DNA dampening and Dual Flow rebound, 32mm uppers and come standard with 9mm QR’s.
The 650B SID utilizes a tapered steer tube, super light design and the option to run 15mm Maxle Lite through axles. Four SID models will get the 650B treatment, the XX, RCT3, RLT and RL. The PushLoc Remote is an option for lockout of the 120mm of travel on the RL and RTL while the XX uses the hydraulic Xloc. Expect to pay $820 for the 650B SID RL.
The REBA fork will have two 650B options, the RLT and RL. Both get the Maxle Lite option, PushLoc Remote option, tapered steer tubes and 120mm of travel. The REBA ‘s will retail for $673.
Look for both forks to be available in December of 2012.
